Methodology
How we count college swimmers by clubSources, rules and limits behind every club page
Every number in the Swim Clubs section comes from official 2026-27 and 2025-26 NCAA and NAIA rosters matched to public meet results. Figures describe our data only — they are not complete national totals and say nothing about coaching quality.
Who is countedSwimmers from the high school classes of 2022–2026 who went on to NCAA (Division I, II, III) or NAIA swimming and whom we could match to their competition history. The classes of 2023–2026 come from official 2026-27 rosters: "class of 2026" means a current freshman, "class of 2023" a current senior. The class of 2022 comes from 2025-26 rosters, where they were seniors; they graduated in 2026. When a college has not yet posted its 2026-27 roster, we read the roster it shows as last season's, so every class is counted the same way.
Which club gets the creditA swimmer is credited to the club they raced for most in the 24 months before college, and to any other club they raced for at least five times in that window — so one swimmer can count for two clubs. High school teams, national or zone teams and "unattached" entries are not clubs.
When a club page is publishedEvery swimmer is counted in our totals, but a club gets its own page only after its data passes our audit: at least three college swimmers matched from rosters to their competition history, and at least one verified fact specific to that club. Numbers are rechecked every month. Once a club page is published it stays published, even if a recount lowers its numbers. More club pages are added as new data is verified.
What is not includedClasses before 2022, swimmers who left their college team before their senior season, and swimmers we could not match. Older classes therefore undercount. Clubs that changed names or merged may appear separately.
Age-group figures"Raced here at 12 or younger" means at least three swims for the club at age 12 or younger. About four in five college swimmers have age-group results in our data.
Best stroke before collegeEach swimmer's highest-scoring individual short-course-yards swim in the three years before college.
Rankings and comparisonsRankings compare clubs within our data by counts — college swimmers, NCAA D1 swimmers, college swimmers per 100 USA Swimming members, and the share who raced for the club at 12 or younger. Ties share a rank. Clubs are placed in the state of their main training site; distances use USA Swimming facility locations. Rankings are counts, not ratings of coaching or quality.
Other sourcesClub membership and training sites come from USA Swimming's public club directory; college admission rates from the U.S. College Scorecard; conferences from college athletics listings.
About this dataEvery figure is calculated, matched and traced from real competition results and official college rosters. Because data collection can miss records or lag behind recent changes, these statistics are for reference only; please rely on the clubs, meet organizers or other official sources for definitive information.
